Philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein thinks fossil fuels make humans safe from natural disasters. This directly contradicts the mainstream narrative that the world needs to urgently replace fossil fuels with renewable energy to counter global warming.
“If you think about it from a rational, pro-human, philosophical perspective, it is actually obvious that we should use more fossil fuels,” Epstein said during his appearance at NTD’s “The Nation Speaks.”
Fossil fuels give people the ability to better deal with things like heat, cold, storms and floods. Citing a World Bank data, Epstein noted that deaths from climate-related causes like storms, floods and extreme temperatures are down 98 percent over the last century.
A report by the World Meteorological Organization last year found that deaths from weather-related disasters reduced threefold, from over 50,000 deaths in the 1970s to less than 20,000 in the 2010s.
However, the report also noted that weather-related disasters have increased by a factor of five over the past 50 years. The United Nations (UN), governments and mainstream media have used that information to scare the public.
Last June 17, at the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate hosted by President Joe Biden, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged governments to end the age of fossil fuels.
“The climate crisis is our number one emergency. Renewables are the peace plan of the 21st century, together with all the new technologies that President Biden has referred to,” Guterres said.
Environmental groups condemned fossil fuels for their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and rallied to phase out natural gas, which actually contributed to the 32 percent reduction of CO2 emissions over the past 15 years.
“The failure to consider the benefits of fossil fuels, which is really a systemic failure throughout all these institutions, and people who purport to be experts, leads to things like today’s energy crisis,” Epstein said.
Experts are saying that fossil fuels are reliable, efficient, abundant, easy to move and easy to generate electricity, and they produce many products like gasoline, diesel, plastics, fertilizer and more. (Related: California returning to FOSSIL FUELS to avoid blackouts.)
“We have to recognize that – most of our conversation doesn’t recognize – that the planet, including the planet’s climate, is not at all hospitable to human life in its natural, so to speak, unimpacted state,” Epstein said.
The energy expert pointed out that if human beings are going to have long, healthy, safe, opportunity-filled lives, humans need to become extremely productive.
“There’s no way around that. If we are not productive, we will be poor, and we will be endangered. And that’s the fate of most people throughout history,” he said.
Epstein stressed that it is a “scam” to push for a rapid transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. “We’ve been hearing about renewable alternatives for 20-plus years. They’ve got massive subsidies. That should be suspicious because if they’re so good, why do they need subsidies? They have all sorts of preferences, including absolute mandates that we use them, and they’re still three percent of the world’s energy?”
Biden’s high-profile trip to Israel, the West Bank and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) “raised eyebrows” in regard to its purpose and wisdom. Biden previously called KSA a “pariah” state after the 2018 killing of Washington Post contributing journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Analysts are saying that the move aims to bolster security in the region and reorient policy with the kingdom. But the number one agenda is to ask for more oil from the middle eastern country.
Epstein tweeted: “President Biden is on a trip begging Saudi Arabia to produce more oil. Which is necessary his and others’ anti-oil policies created a shortage of oil. On the trip, plagued by concerns about dealing with dictators, he promises to use dictatorial power to oppose oil even more.”
The visit to oil-rich KSA came at the peak of Russia’s war in Ukraine, the West’s Russian oil embargo and the soaring fuel prices.
A senior administration official said in an email that the Biden government is hoping to advance America’s interests across a wide range of issues from terrorism to the climate of Iran. But the official admitted that oil will inevitably come up, both in Biden’s discussions with the Saudi government and with officials from five other Persian Gulf oil-producing states.
“We would certainly expect us to spend some time with the [Gulf Cooperation Council] and with the Saudis talking about energy security,” the official said.
