A Republican effort led by House Energy and Commerce Committee chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) aims to stop the Biden regime from forcing all Americans to convert to electric vehicles, or EVs, as part of its radical “green” agenda for the country.
A majority of House Republicans signed on to a letter sent to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) taking aim at its “ill-considered effort” to interfere with the vehicle and energy markets “under the guise of mitigating climate change.”
A total of 151 GOP representatives signed their names to the opposition letter, which openly challenges an EPA plan to force more gas-powered vehicles off the market, to be replaced with more EVs, by the year 2027.
Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), Majority Whip Top Emmer (R-Minn.), and Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) all affixed their signatures to the letter, which was sent specifically to EPA Administrator Michael Regan.
The letter accuses the Biden regime of trying to “commandeer America’s transportation sector” by eliminating all choice from the vehicle market – even though there will be no discernible benefits, and plenty of obvious detriments, to the plan.
“We write to express deep concerns with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) proposed standards for light- and medium-duty vehicles and heavy-duty trucks,” the letter states.
“The proposals are the latest effort by the Biden administration to commandeer America’s transportation sector and force its complete vehicle electrification under the guise of mitigating climate change.”
(Related: If the Biden regime successfully achieves its EV transition goals, there will never be enough electricity available for everyone to charge their cars.)
The letter goes on to state unequivocally that forcing light- and medium-duty vehicles to become electric is both “unworkable and impractical.”
“EPA estimates that the proposed standards would lead to electric vehicles (EVs) accounting for 67 percent of new light-duty vehicle sales and 46 percent of new medium-duty vehicle sales in the United States by model year 2032,” the letter explains, outlining the Biden plan.
“The projected statistics are a far cry from the current EV market share of 4.5 percent, making these standards a deliberate market manipulation to prop up EVs.”
“Furthermore, a rapid shift towards EVs would benefit only the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), as China has a stranglehold on the critical minerals supply chain and manufacturing of EV batteries. For example, China currently controls 50 to 70 percent of global lithium and cobalt refining that are necessary for EV batteries.”
Current IEA estimates suggest that three out of four lithium-ion batteries used in American-sold EVs are made in China, which also corners the market on both cathodes and anodes, maintaining 70 percent and 80 percent of global production, respectively, for both critical parts.
More than half of all global lithium, cobalt, and graphite processing and refining are also taking place within the confines of the communist regime.
“As if worsening the United States’ already diminished energy independence weren’t enough, serious human rights concerns remain over the labor in nations like the Democratic Republic of the Congo in obtaining the necessary minerals from African Mines of which Chinese firms have large stakes in,” further reports American Wire News about the matter.
What this all means, of course, is that under the Biden plan, most of the money, jobs, and economic success will flow straight into communist China. Meanwhile, the U.S. is being systematically drained of its economic viability, not to mention its energy independence.
The government has absolutely no business trying to force people to use one form of energy over another – whatever happened to the free market, anyway? To learn more about the tyrannical “green” agenda behind it all, visit GreenTyranny.news.
